ONTARIO TO INCREASE PENALTIES FOR DISTRACTED, CARELESS DRIVERS

The provincial government is moving to increase the penalties for distracted and careless drivers.

If legislation is passed, a first offence for driving distracted would see your licence suspended for three days. Fines which are currently in the $300-$1000 range would go up to $500-$1000. There would be higher monetary and demerit point penalties for second and third offences.

The government is proposing higher penalties for drivers who don't yield to cyclists.

Imagine, it’s like having a one size fits all bathrobe that can fit a five-foot person or six-foot person. Yes, it fits but not really well. That’s the problem with general statements.
